Initiation

Being well into my thirties, I am likely far too old to be blogging. Several conflicting arguments duel in the recesses of my mind. One the one hand, it saves me from repeating the numerous stories that I tell about my children. The kind of stories that will likely land them in a therapist's office some untold decades into the future. The kind of stories that unless I tell 5 people the next day, I will never remember that it happened. And as with medical documentation, if you didn't write it down, it might not have happened. And I'm pretty sure that it DID happen, and that it was exceptionally funny, and it lent some sort of delicious and vitally important insight into the evolving personalities of my children. Of which I have two: M (boy) age 5, and A (girl) age 1 1/2. More on them later.

On the other hand, each day only has 24 hours. This is something I actually have rebelled against probably all my life. I am certain that I would be at least 2 inches taller if I had slept more than 6 hours a night as a teenager. I have considered petitioning for a 25 hour day-- I'm sure I could get enough popular support. Imagine what one could do with that extra hour... workout, take up a hobby, catch up on housework, run a few errands, just SIT on the couch. If there were an extra hour per day, blogging would not be an issue. I could just fit it in in my free hour. One could also argue that if something is important, you can always find the time.

Besides, I tend to fit in mini rants in my daily life as it is. If I just redirect that a little, maybe I can fool myself into thinking that this takes no time at all. And it's so easy anyway- not like I have to design a whole webpage from scratch. With my experience, that would probably involve clicking sheepishly on an online order for "Webpages for Idiots" or something similar.

What's the big deal anyway. My stories, rantings, and ravings are as legitimate and coherent as anyone else's. So off we go.
